SPRING LAKE, N.C. — In an effort to save money and boost morale, some Town of Spring Lake employees will shift to a four-day-a-week schedule in 2009.

Starting Jan. 1, City Hall offices will be open Monday-Thursday 7:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.

The board of aldermen adopted the new schedule Nov. 10 as a means of saving on electricity in City Hall and the use of city vehicles. After six months, the town will evaluate the program and consider whether to make it permanent.

Schedules for police, fire, recreation and code enforcement will remain unchanged.

Police and fire operate 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The Community Center will remain open 7a.m. - 9 p.m. Monday - Friday and Saturdays 10 a.m.- 6 p.m. The Senior Center will be open Monday - Friday 8 a.m. - 5 p.m.
