SPRING LAKE, N.C. — A Spring Lake man was charged Friday with kidnapping and raping a woman in his home a day earlier, according to the Cumberland County Sheriff's Office.

Woodrow Reiss Mainor, 51, of 1411 Vass Road, faces charges of first-degree rape, first-degree kidnapping and crimes against nature.

Mainor threatened a woman with a knife, forced her to engage in sex and held her captive in his home early Thursday, said Debbie Tanna, a spokeswoman for the sheriff's office.

While she was being held in Mainor's home, the woman managed to call a friend, who alerted authorities, Tanna said.

She said Mainor and the victims were acquaintances.

He was placed in the Cumberland County jail under a $125,400 secured bond. His first court appearance was set for Monday.

Mainor has five misdemeanor convictions from the past eight years, including assault with a deadly weapon, larceny and damage to property, according to state Department of Correction records.
