Spotty showers possible in otherwise dry, warm weekend

The front is moving slowly, and some spotty rain chances will persist through the day Saturday.

"It looks like we're going to have a small chance of some rain or maybe even a passing thunderstorm during the day," Moss said. "We're in need of the rain, too, which we've seen a bit of in the last 24 hours."

Areas south and east of the Triangle could see as much as a half-inch of rain Saturday afternoon. The chances of severe weather, however, were minimal.

Temperatures started out in the upper 50s across much of central North Carolina Saturday and should climb back into the mid-to-upper 70s by the afternoon hours. The unsettled weather pattern and above average temperatures will contribute to a chance for showers. 

A slight chance of showers will linger overnight and early Sunday, with most of the area seeing more clouds than sun on the final day of the weekend. High temperatures will be cooler, however, hovering in the low 70s during the day. 

Summer-like temperatures will return Monday, as highs climb back to near 80 degrees. 

"We have another chance for some scattered showers and maybe a thunderstorm Monday," Moss said.
