Whoa, what a fish! Angler snares 1,200-pound blue marlin

A boat in the Pirate’s Cove Billfish Tournament did on Friday when Florida angler Trey Irvin, on board the Mimi, snared a 1,228.5-pound blue marlin off the waters of Nags Head.
Officials at the tournament headquarters believe that weight will be certified as a state record. The current North Carolina record is 1,142 pounds, 0 ounces, set off Oregon Inlet by Jack Herrington in 1974.
According to Pirate’s Cove, the world record is 1,402.20 pounds, caught in Brazil in 1992.
Irvin caught the fish at 3:45 p.m.
