North Carolina

The Tar Heels, after checking in on some of the biggest coaching names in college basketball, hired former NBA coach Michael Malone, who won a championship with the Denver Nuggets in 2023.

Outgoing players:

F Caleb Wilson (NBA): A freshman star and second-team All-America, Wilson declared for the NBA Draft, where he is expected to be a top-five pick. Wilson, who averaged 19.8 points and 9.4 rebounds, suffered a left hand injury on February 10th vs. Miami and didn’t play the rest of the season. He broke his right thumb on a dunk in practice before UNC’s final regular-season game.

G Derek Dixon: Dixon, a freshman, took over as the Tar Heels' starting point guard in the final months of the season. In 33 games (16 starts), he averaged 6.5 points and 2.7 assists per game. Dixon wrote on social media that he is entering the transfer portal "with the option to return to UNC." (Announced commitment to Arizona)

G Jonathan Powell: Powell, a sophomore who played one season at West Virginia, played in all 33 games for UNC. He averaged 16.4 minutes per game off the bench. He averaged 4.8 points and 2.4 rebounds per game. (Announced transfer to Pitt)

C James Brown: Brown, a sophomore, played two seasons with the Tar Heels. He played in nine games this season before undergoing season-ending foot surgery. Brown averaged 1.2 points per game as a freshman, playing in 18 games. (Announced commitment to Howard)

F Zayden High: As a sophomore, High played in 29 games this season, including two starts in the aftermath of Caleb Wilson's initial injury. In those two starts, he scored 15 and 13 points. For the season, he averaged 3.4 points per game. In the post, High said, "I am officially entering the transfer portal and looking forward to continuing my college basketball career - whether it be here at UNC or elsewhere." G Kyan Evans: Evans transferred to UNC after playing two seasons at Colorado State. The junior guard initially started the first 17 games of the season for the Tar heels before seeing his role changed. Evans averaged 4 points per game this season. (Committed to Minnesota)

C Henri Veesaar (NBA): Veesaar, a transfer from Arizona, emerged as UNC's top player after Wilson was injured, playing himself into a potential first-round pick in the NBA Draft. Veesaar made his intentions known on Friday, April 24. His departure leaves a big hole for the Tar Heels and first-year coach Michael Malone. The 7-foot Veesaar, who was born in Estonia, averaged 17.0 points per game and 8.7 rebounds per game. He also had 2.1 assists per game and shot 42.6% from 3-point range in his lone season at UNC.

Staying:

G Jaydon Young: Young, a junior from Greensboro who played two seasons at Virginia Tech, played in 31 games (four starts) for UNC in 2025-26. (Announced return to UNC)

F Jarin Stevenson announced that he would return for a second season in Chapel Hill. Stevenson, an Alabama transfer, averaged 8.7 points and 4.4 rebounds in 33 games for UNC.

G Isaiah Denis: A three-star recruit, Denis played sparingly for UNC in 2025-26. In 10 games, he averaged 1.9 points. He played a season-high eight minutes against ECU. He said he is keeping open the option to return to UNC. (Announced he is returning to UNC)

Incoming transfers

G Neoklis Avdalas (Virginia Tech): Malone landed his first commitment in the 6-foot-9 Avdalas, who averaged 12.1 points and 4.6 assists per game as a freshman with the Hokies. He was ranked as the No. 22 player in the portal by The Athletic.

G Terrence Brown (Utah): Brown, 6-foot-3, averaged 19.9 points and 3.8 assists per game as a junior at Utah in 2025-26. Brown posted on his commitment on social media. He averaged 20.6 points per game in 2024-25 at Fairleigh Dickinson.

G Matt Able (NC State): A four-star recruit, Able played in 34 games (0 starts) and averaged 8.8 points in his lone season at NC State. Able averaged 3.4 rebounds per game. He shot 35.55 from 3-point range. He committed to UNC, according to multiple reports. He is believed to be the first player to play at State and then Carolina since Bones McKinney, Bernie Mock and Fred Swartzberg in the 1940s. Ven-Allen Lubin played one season at UNC and then at NC State last season.

C Maxim Logue (Florida Atlantic): Logue, a 6-foot-9 French center, averaged 4.8 points and 3.1 rebounds in 28 games as a sophomore for Florida Atlantic in 2025-26. Logue played at Oregon State in 2024-25. His commitment was first reported by Jonathan Givony.

C Cade Bennerman (Northwestern): Bennerman didn't play as a freshman at Northwestern. A 7-footer from Nashville, Bennerman gives the Tar Heels some size.

C Sayon Keita (Barcelona): Keita, 18, is a 7-footer from Mali. He played for FC Barcelona in Spain. He is considered a top international prospect and a potential first-round pick in the 2027 NBA Draft.

Duke

The Blue Devils, the No. 1 overall seed in the NCAA Tournament, lost to UConn in the Elite Eight in a game they led by as many as 19 points. Duke was led by national player of the year Cameron Boozer, who is expected to be a top pick in the NBA Draft.

Outgoing players:

F Cam Boozer (NBA): Boozer was the second-straight AP Player of the Year and Naismith Award winner for the Blue Devils in a stellar freshman campaign. He's headed to the NBA after averaging 22.5 points (ninth in Division I play in the country) and 10.2 rebounds (12th) per game in leading Duke to an ACC championship, Elite Eight and a 35-3 record.

G Darren Harris: Harris came off the bench for Duke for two seasons. His best performance came in a blowout 100-56 win at Notre Dame in February. He scored 16 points in that game. (Announced his commitment to Indiana)

F Nik Khamenia: Khamenia, a freshman, averaged 5.7 points and 3.3 rebounds in 38 games (five starts) for the Blue Devils. He averaged 19.8 minutes per game. (Announced his commitment to UConn)

G Isaiah Evans: Evans declared for the NBA draft after two seasons at Duke. He averaged 15.0 points, 3.2 rebounds and 1.3 assists while shooting 43.3 percent from the floor in 2025-26. Evans is a Fayetteville native and went to high school in Charlotte.

Returning players:
G Cayden Boozer: Cayden Boozer averaged 7.7 points and 3 assists per game in his freshman season for the Blue Devils. He came on strong late in the season when Caleb Foster suffered a foot injury and started several games in place of Foster, scoring at least 15 points in four of the final six games of the season. Boozer had a critical turnover in the final seconds of Duke's loss at UConn. He blamed himself for the loss after the game.

C Pat Ngongba II: Ngongba averaged 10.1 points and 5.8 rebounds per game as a sophomore for the Blue Devils. Ngongba, 6-foot-11 and 250 pounds, missed five games late in the season with a foot injury. He averaged 21.9 minutes per game.

G Sebastian Wilkins: Wilkins, ranked as the No. 25 recruit in the nation, didn't play during his first season with Duke.

G Caleb Foster: Foster averaged 8.3 points, 3.5 rebounds and 2.8 assists per game, all career highs, for Duke in 2025-26. Foster will be back for his fourth season with the Blue Devils, he and the school announced. He played in 33 games (30 starts) for Duke. Foster missed the ACC Tournament and the first two games of the NCAA Tournament after fracturing his foot in the regular-season finale. He was terrific in the Blue Devils' Elite Eight win over St. John's with 11 points and three rebounds, his first game back from injury. But he didn't score in 14 minute in Duke's season-ending loss to UConn. "I'm exactly where I'm supposed to be," Foster said.

G/F Dame Sarr: Sarr averaged 6.4 points and 3.8 rebounds as a freshman at Duke. Sarr made the All-ACC defensive team and finished second in voting for ACC Defensive Player of the Year.

Incoming players:

F Drew Scharnowski (Belmont): Scharnowski, a 6-foot-9 forward, averaged 10.7 points and 6.0 rebounds as a sophomore at Belmont during the 2025-26 season.

G John Blackwell (Wisconsin): Blackwell averaged 19.1 points and 5.1 rebounds per game as a junior at Wisconsin in the 2025-26. Blackwell, 6-foot-4, played three seasons at Wisconsin, increasing his scoring from 8.0 points per game to 15.8 points per game to 19.1 points per game. He shot 38.9% from 3-point range. He announced his commitment on social media. At the moment, the Blue Devils have Blackwell, Boozer, Caleb Foster and freshman Deron Rippey Jr. in the backcourt.

C Joaquim Boumtje Boumtje (Barcelona): A 7-footer, Boumtje Boumtje, 16, played for a youth team in the FC Barcelona system. He is the son of former NBA player Ruben Boumtje Boumtje. He is not eligible for the NBA Draft until 2028. He is originally from Florida, but moved to Spain as a teen.

Women's basketball

NC State

Outgoing players:

G Zamareya Jones: Jones, a sophomore, started 30 games for the Wolfpack, averaging 14.9 points per game and shooting 36.6% from 3-point range. (Committed to Louisville)

C Mallory Collier: Collier, a junior, played 16 games for NC State in 2025-26. She averaged 2.6 points and 1.1 rebounds per game. (Signed with South Florida)

C Tilda Trygger: Trygger, a sophomore from Sweden, averaged 10.6 points and 7.0 rebounds per game in 2025-26. She started 53 games (64 total games) across two seasons with the Wolfpack. (Signed with Washington)

G Devyn Quigley: Quigley, a sophomore, averaged 16.5 minutes per game in 29 games for the Wolfpack. She averaged 4.3 points and 2.4 rebounds per game.

Incoming transfers:

F Khady Leye (Auburn): Leye averaged 9.5 points and 5.3 rebounds per game for the Tigers. She played her freshman season at Towson.

North Carolina

Outgoing players:

G Lanie Grant: Grant, a sophomore, was second on the team in scoring at 10.8 points. She led the Tar Heels in minutes played per game (29.1) and 3-point percentage (41.9%). (Grant announced she is transferring to TCU.)

G Taliyah Henderson: Henderson, a freshman, played in 33 games for the Tar Heels and averaged 3.7 points and 2.0 rebounds per game.

G Elina Aarnisalo: Aarnisalo, a transfer from UCLA who played in all 36 games (26 starts) in her lone season at UNC, was the only Tar Heel to record three 20-point games in 2025-26. She had 22 against Duke, 21 vs. Maryland and 20 against Virginia. She averaged 10.2 points, 3.4 rebounds and 2.9 assists per game. (Announced she has committed to UCLA)

Incoming transfers:

F Achol Akot (Oklahoma State): Akot averaged 12.4 points and 7.2 rebounds per game as a junior at Oklahoma State.

G Sophie Burrows (Syracuse): Burrows averaged 11.0 points and 5.8 rebounds per game as a junior at Syracuse. Burrows show 39.6% from 3-point range as a sophomore, but shot 30.1% last season.

G Chloe Clardy (Stanford): Clardy averaged 12.0 points, 2.3 assists and 2.0 steals per game as a junior at Stanford.

G Gabby White (Virginia): White, who is from Chapel Hill, averaged 6.1 points and 3.4 rebounds per game as a freshman for Virginia. White's mother, Joanne Aluka-White, is the Tar Heels' assistant head coach.

Duke

Outgoing players:

G Anna Wikstrom: Wikstrom, a freshman from Norway, averaged 1.3 points in 18 games in 2025-26.

Incoming transfers:

G Aaliyah Crump (Texas): Crump averaged 7.9 points and 2.3 rebounds as a freshman at Texas.
