Those dreaded Thursday night games have wreaked a small bit of havoc on our Football Friday schedule for this week. It’s not unexpected because this is Labor Day weekend, but we appreciate all who will still play their games on the day they should be played – which is, of course, Friday.

This week, we plan on having crews at 28 viewing-area games involving teams from 17 counties.

Here’s our schedule for Aug. 31:

East Wake at Millbrook

Leesville Road at Apex

Knightdale at Wakefield

Southern Durham at Wake Forest-Rolesville

North Johnston at West Johnston

Gray’s Creek at Terry Sanford

Wallace-Rose Hill at Clinton

Rosewood at Hobbton

Carrboro at Cardinal Gibbons

Holly Springs at Fuquay-Varina

Franklinton at Louisburg

Smithfield-Selma at Chapel Hill

Goldsboro at Hillside

Sanderson at Middle Creek

Western Harnett at Lee Senior

Northern Nash at Tarboro

North Edgecombe at SouthWest Edgecombe

Northwood at Jordan-Matthews

Enloe at Southeast Raleigh

E.E. Smith at Westover

Pine Forest at Seventy-First

Jack Britt at South View

Weldon at Northwest Halifax

Northern Vance at Rocky Mount

Southern Vance at Oxford Webb

Orange at South Granville

Chatham Central at Ravenscroft

Triton at Green Hope

Our designated game of the week in a week of some interesting games will be Southern Durham at Wake Forest-Rolesville.

Thanks to all of those who called in scores last week. They came in fast and furious and with accuracy. Our toll free number is 888-472-9725. Calling in your school’s score is the best way to ensure that it will make Football Friday.

Thursday, we begin another school year of presenting our High School Extra Effort Award. This is something that we began in 1981, and we’ve been presenting them ever since. This week the winner is Noelle Kelly of Eastern Wayne High School. If you have anyone you’d like to nominate for the award, please let us know at extraeffort@wral.com.

Coaches, don’t let the threat of showers keep you from playing. See you Friday night 11.35 p.m. on Football Friday.
