LILLINGTON, N.C. — Three people were killed early Saturday in a single-car crash in Harnett County about 6 miles outside of Lillington, the state Highway Patrol reported.

The car, a 2005 Honda Accord, appears to have been traveling more than 100 mph when it ran off Tim Currin Road on a curve just north of N.C. 27, said Sgt. John Edwards of the Highway Patrol.

The car hit multiple trees before coming to rest on its side, Edwards said. The wreck was reported at 4:18 a.m.

“I don’t know what goes through their minds to be traveling that fast,” he said. “Three families have been devastated.”
