thank you camp. It's always exciting who we can come together for a good cause. There's no better calls and helping our neighbors. Indeed Since 1993 bedrooms have donated £5.. Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina and his partner. The food bank along with staff from the north Carolina Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services Also coordinates more than 600 volunteers to collect the cans of food from their doors at the farm. Each year. Over 50,000 federal yours come to the gates like giving back to those in need as we head into the water months. This food is essential to the food banks across our state. I can tell you that the Department of AG is everyday involved in the food. We have a food should the virgin that the liberals on us. The U. S. Department of Defense through the food banks and his support last year was an unbelievable year with a record amount of food delivered and I can't thank the staff at the department and the food banks for what they did to get us through the tough times. We've been very fast fortunate to have several strong sponsors step up this year to help us at the 2021 state fair. I am proud to have a company like smithfield join us in feeding our neighbors Smithville is a company that these not only north Carolinians but people across the nation and the world. And I can tell you that I was thinking this morning if we hit so down and tried to come up with, who would we wish would be the sponsor of candidate and hunger relief at the state fair. They would have been smithfield. If you think about all the things that they do to feed the world, they're a perfect fit and maybe we just did decide that smithfield would be a perfect fit and maybe they graciously accepted and it couldn't be any better. They are here today to help us with this Uh 2020 was a tough year for everybody and and the state fair was no uh no exceptions. It was a disappointment to cancel last year's fair and quite a financial blow to the fair. But our sponsors have stepped up. We're staging a great combine and this is a great year to visit the north Carolina state fair. Smithfield has stepped up to help us get through this and to help those. I can't thank them enough. And I think their experience here today, we'll show them just want to benefit this hunger relief day is the north Carolinians and we hope become a long term sponsor for us. Mr smith recently assumed the role of president and c uh and has held a variety of leadership role in the company's U. S. And international operations since joining the company in 2000 and three and Shane is one of us. He is a native of Grantham. For those of you who need a lesson in north Carolina geography, that's in wayne county jane morning. It is great to be back home when my wife and I drove in today, it felt like we were coming home. I love being back in north Carolina. So before I get started, I do have one question. Sometimes I get in trouble for asking this just by a show of hands vinegar based or tomato based. So I want to thank everyone who has joined us. Your donations to the food bank of central and eastern north Carolina are making a real meaningful difference. And the fight against hunger right here in our local community, our tagline and smithfield is good food responsibly. Hunger Relief day is the largest single day food drive in the state and the impact of collecting the distributing the food that comes in today will last for months as you all know food that food banks across the state Have seen incredible increase in need due to COVID-19. Our partner agencies in the 34 counties that we serve Have seen an increase, a sustained increase of 35% since the pandemic began. Family resources are stretched incredibly thin and that is why we are so thankful for everyone. All the fairgoers who have come out today and participated in the event. We want to thank smithfield Foods for being incredible partners, not just today, but every day all year long for more years than I can count Their donations of protein have allowed us to get millions of pounds of nutritious, consistent sources of food to folks facing hunger And so again, thank you to everyone for coming out with this.
