RALEIGH, N.C. — The SPCA of Wake County is offering military families and veterans the chance to bring home a new, furry family member at no cost over Memorial Day weekend.

Between Saturday and Memorial Day, families and individuals who present a military ID can take home an adult animal without having to pay an adoption fee.

“We know companion animals bring so much joy to a home," said Darci VanderSlik, communications director at the SPCA. "We want to honor our service men and women by waiving adoption fees on adult pets as a small way we can say ‘thank you’ for your service and help these families enjoy the love of an animal."

The SPCA of Wake County will also offer half-off all adoption fees on adult pets year-round for military members and veterans when they show their military ID.

The SPCA is located at Petfinder Lane in Raleigh. A list of adoptable animals and more information can be found online.

Hours for the holiday weekend include Sunday and Monday from 1-6 p.m.
