MORRISVILLE, N.C. — A Southwest Airlines computer outage caused major delays at airports across the nation Wednesday afternoon, including the Raleigh-Durham International Airport.

Dozens of travelers waited in line for more than 40 minutes at the Southwest baggage check at RDU.

Brian Mast said he was hoping he would be able to make it home to his family in Denver.

“I showed up about two hours early for my flight only to find out that this was the back of the line about 40 minutes back, he said. ” Luckily I showed up two hours early otherwise I wouldn’t be getting my golf clubs back home with me after about six or seven days of travel.”

The Southwest Airlines system was partially back online just before 7 p.m. but there was no word on when it would be fully restored.

It was not immediately clear what caused the computer problem.
