All lanes of Interstate 85 are closed at Exit 213 near the town of Henderson after a crash involving a FedEx tractor-trailer at around 11 a.m. 

<b>HENDERSON, N.C.</b> — Both southbound lanes of Interstate 85 were closed at Exit 213 near Henderson on Tuesday after a crash involving a FedEx tractor-trailer.

The crash occurred at about 11 a.m., leaving the truck in some woods off the side of the highway.

First responders pulled the driver from the wreckage, and he was airlifted to Duke University Hospital in Durham by a Duke Life Flight helicopter.

Crash closes I-85 southbound near Henderson

Drivers passing through the area must use Exit 213 and take U.S. Highway 158 South for 7 miles before getting back onto the interstate.

WRAL News was told that 22 students were on board, ages 5 to 11. Two students were taken to WakeMed for femur fractures and facial lacerations. Seven other students were taken to a hospital in Smithfield.
