Editor's Note: Songs of the Season runs all week and features some really talented local kids and teens performing holiday tunes on stage at Imurj, a collaborative art and music space in downtown Raleigh.
Alex Watson, 12, has been playing piano for half of his life. The seventh grader at Apex Middle School started taking lessons at age 6. These days, you also might find him carrying around some drumsticks too. He plays percussion at his school band.
Rissi Palmer, the host of The Relative Pitch and an incredible singer and songwriter in her own right, connected me with Alex and his family. Alex is a regular on stage at The Relative Pitch's open mic events for kids and teens. The Relative Pitch offers monthly performance opportunities for kids at The Blue Note Grill in Durham.
When he's not playing music, Watson, who has lived most of his life in Japan and England, loves to travel, read and participate in the Jordan Lake Crew rowing team. As part of our Songs of the Season series, watch him in the video perform "A Hallelujah Christmas."
