CAMERON, N.C. — A soldier will spend the rest of his life in prison for the aggravated sexual assault of a minor.

Daniel Kemp Sr., 51, of Cameron, pleaded guilty to aggravated sexual assault of a minor in December 2019.

Kemp was sentenced Wednesday, and is in the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service.

Kemp was an active-duty member of the Army when he raped the minor.

Law enforcement said Kemp's wife, Shanynn Kemp, harassed and prevented a witness from giving law enforcement information about the assault during the investigation.
