WARSAW, N.C. — A soldier from the U.S. Army John F. Kennedy Special Warfare Center and School at Fort Bragg died Sunday after he was struck by a car on U.S. Highway 117 in Duplin County.

According to the U.S. Army, Sgt. Michael Daniel-Hagan, 28, from Texas, was in the middle of a training exercise when he became ill.

Daniel-Hagan was originally transported to Womack Army Medical Center, but due to limited beds, plans were made to transfer him to the Naval Hospital at Camp Lejeune.

While the ambulance transporting him was pulled over on U.S. 117 near Warsaw, Daniel-Hagan exited the vehicle and was struck by oncoming traffic. He was pronounced dead at 3:47 a.m.

“Michael’s death is a tremendous loss to the command,” said Col. Eric Jacobson. “He left an impact not only the students he trained with, but also the cadre and the members of the SWCS enterprise."

Daniel-Hagan enlisted in the U.S. Army in 2017 and served as an Infantryman in the 82nd Airborne Division.

He received numerous awards and was survived by his wife and son.
