Fayetteville, N.C. — Fayetteville police charged a Fort Bragg soldier Tuesday in connection with an eight-hour standoff inside the Chason Ridge Apartments last week.
Spc. Jason N. Johnson, 24, a dental specialist, exchanged gunfire with police, tried to stab an officer and barricaded himself inside the apartments on March 24, police said.
No one was injured when Johnson and officers fired several rounds at each other. Army officials took him to Fort Bragg for a psychological evaluation, authorities said.
Johnson was turned over to Fayetteville police Tuesday. He was charged with five counts of assault on a law enforcement officer with a firearm, one count of discharging a weapon into occupied property and one count of second-degree burglary.
Authorities held Johnson in the Cumberland County County Jail on a $50,000 bond.
