RALEIGH, N.C. — Soca, a popular restaurant anchored in Raleigh's Village District, is closing.

The restaurant was located at the corner of Clark Avenue and Oberlin Road and served a variety of Latin American, Caribbean and American dishes.

Sunday is the retaurant's last day. A post on the restaurant's Instagram page left a thank you message to supporters.

"To our beloved friends, family and longtime loyal guests,

Due to circumstances that you can probably imagine, and some that leave us scratching our heads, this Saturday night, September 17, will be our final dinner service. For a myriad of unfortunate reasons, you probably have heard about one of your favorite restaurants in the area closing suddenly, in the past few weeks and months. The truth is, some industries have gone from weathering the storm pretty well, to white hot, while others are still just barely recovering from being completely shuttered for a time."

"It has been our greatest honor to be your neighborhood spot to celebrate life’s important events over the past 5+ years. The love and support you showed us at the beginning of the pandemic and throughout our many pivots and transformations was palpable, and we will never forget it."

The owners said they will turn their attention to their sister restaurant, kō än, in Cary.

so•ca was the first restaurant to be directly affected by COVID as the first confirmed COVID case in the area had dined there.

Before restaurants across the state closed for indoor dining, Soca shut down for cleaning in early March 2020 after the first local confirmed case of the virus was traced back to the business.

Soca was closed for four months. The restaurant reopened in June 2020, but closed again in December 2020 when owners say COVID-19 relief aid ran dry.
