We're in for some unusual weather Friday morning, with gusty winds and thunderstorms in the Triangle and the potential for snow flurries up north.

Flurries were reported in Roxboro and Henderson, and some very light accumulation was reported in South Hill, Va.

According to WRAL meteorologist Elizabeth Gardner, the flurries will make for a beautiful view, but there will be no impact for drivers.

In Raleigh, temperatures were in the 50s at 4 a.m. but dropped to the mid 40s by 9 a.m.

Scattered rain will fall around the area throughout the morning, and winds from the northeast gusting around 35 mph will make it feel breezy and cooler -- especially after a few days of springlike weather. According to Gardner, there could be thunderstorms or lightning accompanying heavy rain in the Triangle before conditions become clearer around 2 p.m.

Rain chances: March 19, 2021

The rain may be heavy at times, and the winds may seem strong, but there is no threat for severe weather on Friday, Gardner said.

Afternoon temperatures will likely be in the upper 40s and low 50s from the Triangle southward and in the 30s and 40s to our north as the colder air sinks in.

Wind gusts: March 19, 2021

A bit of sun returns for the weekend and into next week.

Saturday marks the first official day of spring, and temperatures will reach the mid-50s after starting out near-freezing. It grows gradually warmer – 60 degrees on Sunday, 63 for the high on Monday and up to 70 degrees by Wednesday.
