RALEIGH, N.C. — After more than 30 years in business, the Snoopy's Hot Dogs location at 600 Hillsborough Street has closed its doors.

Owners announced via social media Monday that the restaurant closed permanently on Sunday night.

"Opening in 1990, it was one of the first businesses to signal the coming revitalization of downtown. In addition to the regular daytime lunch and dinner times, our later expanded late-night hours made Snoopy’s a part of the Glenwood South experience," owners wrote on Facebook, noting that the COVID-19 pandemic had affected their business operations.

Owners decided to sell the space to developers and focus attention in other areas.

The first Snoopy's location opened in 1978 on the corner of Wake Forest Road and Whitaker Mill. It remains open, as well as two other Raleigh locations and one Garner location. All employees have been given jobs at the other locations, owners said.
Snoopy's founder Steve Webb died in 2019 at the age of 81.
Snoopy's is a 2020 WRAL Voters' Choice Award winner for best hot dogs.
