MORRISVILLE, N.C. — A smoke grenade was found in a passenger's checked luggage at Raleigh-Durham International Airport on Friday.

A spokesperson from the Transportation Security Administration confirmed the item belonged to an Army sergeant who was headed home on leave.

The sergeant said he forgot the item was in his bag. He was not cited and was able to continue his trip.

The grenade is in possession of the TSA's explosives team until it can be retrieved by the U.S. Air force.
