Smithfield woman charged in baseball bat attack

A Smithfield woman has been charged with beating another woman with a baseball bat, according to the Sampson County Sheriff's Office.

DUNN, N.C. — A Smithfield woman has been charged with beating another woman with a baseball bat, according to the Sampson County Sheriff's Office.

County investigators said that Farah Rhue, 33, struck Tkeyah Jones in the head with a bat during an argument at 121 Yuvette Lane in Dunn on Feb. 17.

Jones suffered significant head trauma, investigators said. She was taken to the Betsy Johnson Regional Hospital, then transferred to WakeMed in Raleigh.

Rhue arrested on felony charges and placed in the Sampson County jail.

She has 11 previous convictions dating to 1995, including assault inflicting serious bodily injury and felony drug possession, according to state Department of Correction records.

She was most recently released in March 2010 after serving 1½ years for felony identity theft.
