Smithfield-Selma High students hurt in head-on collision

Five Smithfield-Selma High School students were injured Wednesday afternoon in a head-on collision near the school, police said.

SMITHFIELD, N.C. — Five Smithfield-Selma High School students were injured Wednesday afternoon in a head-on collision near the school, police said.

A Jeep and a pickup collided on Booker Dairy Road at about 4:30 p.m. Police said one of the vehicles crossed the center line, but investigators were trying to determine who was at fault in the crash.

Three of the people in the crash were taken to WakeMed in Raleigh, while the other two went to a local hospital.

The identities of those hurt and their conditions haven't been released.

Traffic through the area was detoured for about an hour.
