Smithfield police are looking for three men who beat a homeless man on Franklin Drive late Tuesday during an attempted robbery.

SMITHFIELD, N.C. — Smithfield police are looking for three men who beat a homeless man on Franklin Drive late Tuesday during an attempted robbery. 

Authorities found Jose Hernandez, 50, on Franklin Drive near U.S. Highway 301 Wednesday afternoon, hours after he said he was beaten by three men trying to steal from him. Hernandez was taken to WakeMed, where he was listed in good condition Friday morning. 

Anyone with information about the robbery or anyone who saw suspicious activity in the area after 9 p.m. Tuesday should call the Smithfield Police Department tip line at 919-989-8835. Callers can remain anonymous.
