SMITHFIELD, N.C. — A man was shot inside his own home late Monday night, according to police.

Neighbors said the man was sitting in the front room of his home, located on West Street near Furlong Drive. The shooting occurred before midnight.

Bullet holes could be seen in the home's siding, and evidence markers littered the yard.

The man was taken to the hospital in a personal vehicle. There was no information on his condition.

A neighbor told WRAL News the gunshots woke him up. He said it was the second straight day there was a shooting on his street.

A suspect has not been identified. Detectives plan to look at the security cameras on some of the nearby houses to try to identify the shooter.
