JOHNSTON COUNTY, N.C. — A man died after being ejected from a vehicle in Johnston County, authorities said.

The State Highway Patrol said Edgar Wayne Warren, 38, of Smithfield, died.

Two people were in a dispute before one of them drove away in a pickup truck.

Warren and a passenger followed in an SUV and bumped the pickup truck.

The pickup truck continued driving, and the SUV crashed.

Warren, who authorities said was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected from the SUV and died.

The passenger, who authorities said was also not wearing a seat belt, was uninjured.

Investigators were able to look at surveillance video from a home at the site of the crash.

The SUV’s air bags did not deploy, authorities said.

Authorities said the incident is still under investigation.

No charges have been filed. Authorities are looking for the driver of the pickup.

Troopers said they believe alcohol was a factor in the crash.
