Smithfield, N.C. — A 34-year-old Smithfield man was charged Wednesday in connection with a home invasion and an unrelated December sexual assault of a minor, the Johnston County Sheriff's Office said.
Christopher James Derusha, of Yellow Stone Lane, is charged with first-degree burglary, larceny, assault on a female and taking indecent liberties with a child. He was in the Johnston County jail Friday under a $75,500 bond.
According to authorities, Derusha broke into a home on Camelia Drive near Selma Wednesday and assaulted a woman before taking her purse.
Derusha was also under investigation for allegedly touching a 10-year-old girl on Dec. 8, authorities said, and he was charged in that case following the home invasion arrest.
