Small charges a sign of scam

The Better Business Bureau issued a warning Tuesday about a small bore scam skimming funds from credit and debit accounts.

The scammers count on the fact that many people don't regularly check their statements very carefully. They charge stolen credit card numbers with amounts such as $9.84. But that amount will likely change as word gets out.

The supposed "business" related to the charge is usually an unfamiliar website the scammers created.

If you see an unfamiliar charge on your statement, no matter how small, contact the bank to investigate.
