Sleepy driver caused wreck that injured four, troopers say

A driver fell asleep at the wheel of a sport-utility vehicle along Interstate 540, causing a wreck that injured a 3-year-old boy and three women, state troopers said.

RALEIGH, N.C. — The driver of a sport-utility vehicle fell asleep early Saturday, causing a wreck that injured a 3-year-old boy and three women along Interstate 540, state troopers said.

The woman lost control of the Ford Explorer on I-540 Westnear the Leesville Road exit around 2 a.m., troopers said. The SUV ran into the median, and the driver overcorrected. The SUV flipped over several times and came to rest right-side up.

Three women and a 3-year-old boy were transported to WakeMed. Troopers said the victims suffered minor injuries.
