North Carolina's history and maritime museums have launched an effort to encourage kids and adults to "skip the screen" and take some time to learn about state history this summer.
The effort, called Skip the Screen, is designed for kids and families and involves three ways to connect and learn.
Here's how ...
Time Travel Ticket
Download or pick up a Time Travel Ticket at a state history museum in Raleigh, Old Fort, Fayetteville and Elizabeth City or at the maritime museums at Hatteras, Beaufort or Southport.
With the ticket, travel to as many of the museums as you can and complete a time travel activity. You can get your ticket stamped and then collect a reward through Aug. 31.
Read Through History
Read a book this summer about North Carolina culture, stories and history. Skip the Screen has a full list of picture books to adult books for you to choose from. The books are available at state museum shops and, of course, your local library.
History Anywhere, Anytime!
Skip the Screen offers lots of ideas for crafts, recipes and other activities to keep families busy all summer.
