RALEIGH, N.C. — Skies were clear enough Thursday morning to let people looking up to see a meteor.

The meteor was seen around 6:50 a.m. over North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia and Florida.

The clear skies are thanks to a high-pressure system over North Carolina that's bringing in warm air from the southeast.

While temperatures were hovering near 50 degrees Thursday morning, they'll get up to the 70s in the afternoon. “Enjoy being outside today,” Gardner said.

Pollen count will also be high on Thursday.

"We are in the peak of the tree pollen season," Gardner said. "Levels are high today but may drop a bit tomorrow as we have a good bit of rain the forecast. Counts go back up this weekend."

Thursday's clear skies won’t last as a system with rain and thunderstorms currently in the Mid-Mississippi Valley will arrive Friday.

There’s an 80 percent chance for rain Friday, likely arriving after the morning commute. The high will be in the mid-60s.
