Six east Durham house fires ruled as arson; authorities asking public for help in investigation

Since July 2, the Durham Fire Department has battled six house fires in east Durham around Angier Avenue and E. Pettigrew Street. Seven homes were damaged by the fires.

DURHAM, N.C. — A series of house fires in Durham has expanded an investigation and prompted the fire department to ask the public for help in gathering information.

Since July 2, the Durham Fire Department (DFD) has battled six house fires in east Durham around Angier Avenue and E. Pettigrew Street. Seven homes were damaged by the fires.

Chief Bryan Baker with DFD confirmed that the fires are being investigated as arson and that four of the recent fires are owned by the same person.

The dates and addresses involved are:

  • July 2 -1406 E Pettigrew St. and 305 Amber Pl
  • July 11 - 1502 E Pettigrew St. and 303 Amber Pl
  • July 12 - 1512 Angier Ave. and 1306 Angier Ave.

Each of these fires have affected abandoned homes and have not displaced anyone. Durham Fire is working with local and state officials to determine if the fires were related.

Wednesday morning, a house caught fire in the 1300 block of Angier Avenue. Another fire occurred in the 1500 block of E. Pettigrew St. on Tuesday.
