WRAL WeatherCenter Blog : What hurricane hit eastern NC between 2000 and 2004. It caused a lot of damage for the people there. My son was with the National Guard at the time and helped give out water. He told us about how those folks would hug them and was so greatful for their help. He was in the US Army when Fran hit us and he had no idea what a hurricane could do.
