RALEIGH, N.C. — The North Carolina Center for Missing Persons issued a Silver Alert Monday for a missing Franklin County man.

Rufus Wade Brogden, 65, is believed to be suffering from dementia or some other cognitive impairment.

Brogden is described as white, standing 5 feet 9 inches tall and weighing about 220 pounds. He has short gray hair and brown eyes. He was last seen Thursday evening wearing a dark blue T-shirt, red and blue plaid short-sleeve shirt, blue jeans, white sneakers and a red baseball cap.

A photo wasn't immediately available.

Authorities said Brogden, of Franklinton, might have gone to Henderson or Oxford.

Developed in 2007, Silver Alert is a system to quickly notify the public about missing endangered adults who suffer from dementia or other cognitive impairments, such as Alzheimer's disease.

It also allows caregivers and nursing homes to report a person missing. In the past, only a family member could report an adult missing.
