COLUMBUS, N.C. — The N.C. Center for Missing Persons issued a Silver Alert early Tuesday for a missing endangered woman.

Joyce Elaine Earley, who is believed to be suffering from dementia or some other cognitive impairment, was last seen at High Woods Apartments, 15 Pond Tree Lane, Apt D1, in Columbus.

She is a white woman, 5 feet 2 inches tall, 132 pounds, with short gray hair and brown eyes.

Earley, 78, was last seen wearing gray pants. Officials did not know where she was headed.

Anyone with information about Earley should call Ofc. Buchanan, with the Columbus police, at 828-894-0187

Developed in 2007, the Silver Alert system quickly notifies the public about missing endangered adults who suffer from dementia or other cognitive impairments, such as Alzheimer's disease.

It allows caregivers and nursing homes to report a person missing. In the past, only a family member could report an adult missing.
