DURHAM, N.C. — The North Carolina Center for Missing Persons issued a Silver Alert Monday for a missing Durham man.

Franky Hairston, 62, is black, stands 5 feet 8 inches tall and weighs 235 pounds. He has short black and gray hair and brown eyes.

He was last seen at 300 N. Roxboro St. wearing khaki pants, a gray hooded jacket and a beige shirt.

Anyone with information about his whereabouts should call the Durham Police Department at 919-560-4600.

Developed in 2007, Silver Alert is a system to quickly notify the public about missing endangered people who suffer from dementia or other cognitive impairments, such as Alzheimer's disease.

It also allows caregivers and nursing homes to report a person missing. In the past, only a family member could report an adult missing.
