BATTLEBORO, N.C. — A Silver Alert was issued for a missing woman Saturday afternoon.

Alexis Catherine Ellis, 25, was last seen at 7688 NC Highway 48 in Battleboro, approximately 20 minutes north of Rocky Mount. Ellis was last seen wearing a dark blue dress with a pink bow on the back and brown sandals. She is 5 feet 6 inches tall, weighs 120 pounds and has medium-length brown hair.

Developed in 2007, Silver Alert is a system to quickly notify the public about missing endangered adults who suffer from dementia or other cognitive impairments, such as Alzheimer's disease.

It also allows caregivers and nursing homes to report a person missing. In the past, only a family member could report an adult missing.
