Hamlet, N.C. — The North Carolina Center for Missing Persons canceled a Silver Alert for an 83-year-old Hamlet woman Monday evening.
The Hamlet Police Department called off the Silver Alert for Ruby Knight Caulk around 8:30 p.m. It was not immediately clear if or how she had been found.
Caulk was believed to have driven a 1998 Buick LeSabre away from her home Poplar Street home.
Developed in 2007, Silver Alert is a system to quickly notify the public about missing endangered adults who suffer from dementia or other cognitive impairments, such as Alzheimer's disease.
It also allows caregivers and nursing homes to report a person missing. In the past, only a family member could report an adult missing.
