FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — Authorities have canceled a Silver Alert issued earlier Thursday for an 84-year-old Fayetteville woman who went missing.

Kimiko Chester was reported missing from 654 Montclair Road, but state authorities canceled the alert shortly before 11 a.m., at the request of the Fayetteville Police Department.

No other details were released.

Developed in 2007, Silver Alert is a system to quickly notify the public about missing endangered adults who suffer from dementia or other cognitive impairments, such as Alzheimer's disease.

It also allows caregivers and nursing homes to report a person missing. In the past, only a family member could report an adult missing.
