ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. — The state on Tuesday canceled a Silver Alert for a Rocky Mount man missing since January.

A spokesman for Rocky Mount police said authorities have not found Stephen Craig Miller, but that the Department of Public Safety sometimes cancels Silver Alerts after a period of time has passed.

Miller's 2003 Ford Ranger pickup was found submerged in the Tar River in January, triggering the Silver Alert and a search.

The truck was pulled unoccupied from the river on Jan. 29, but Miller's body has not been found.

At the time, Cpl. Brad Summerlin of the Rocky Mount police said there was no reason to believe that Miller had encountered foul play.

Miller, 70, is described as white, 5 feet 11 inches tall, with brown hair and brown eyes.

"We have no prior knowledge of him disappearing or walking away before," Summerlin said. "If you see anybody that fits the description with his picture, please call the Rocky Mount Police Department as soon as possible so we can follow up on that lead."

Anyone with information about Miller is asked to call the Rocky Mount Police Department at 252-972-1411 or Twin County Crime Stoppers at 252-977-1111.
