ENFIELD, N.C. — The North Carolina Center for Missing Persons canceled a Silver Alert Wednesday for a Halifax County woman.

Lizzie M. Wilson, 70, was found about six blocks from Woodhaven Rest Home, at 311 E. Bryant St. in Enfield, a day after she disappeared from the facility, officials said.

She was awake and alert when found, but authorities took her to Halifax Regional Medical Center for evaluation.

Developed in 2007, Silver Alert is a system to quickly notify the public about missing endangered adults who suffer from dementia or other cognitive impairments, such as Alzheimer's disease.

It also allows caregivers and nursing homes to report a person missing. In the past, only a family member could report an adult missing.
