SILER CITY, N.C. — Huge trees lay in Siler City front yards Friday, some of which had damaged homes during Tropical Storm Michael.

Town officials said they had 16 reports of trees in the road, and a police official said there were five reports of trees down on homes.

Bobby Justice has lived in his home for more than 30 years. This is the first time a tree has to be taken off his roof.

“It sounded like, boom, real loud,” Justice said. “I knew something bad had happened.”

Justice lost a car, and his house has some roof damage, but he's OK.

“I guess I was at the wrong place at the wrong time or something,” Justice said. “We've been here 30-something years and never had any wind damage before.”

He said he has insurance to help pay for the damage.

One crew in Siler City had cut five trees downed by Michael.

Darren Yarborough heard a massive tree fall that just missed his neighbor’s home.

“It was something I won’t ever forget,” Yarborough said.

It crushed two cars and damaged a part of the roof.

“I'm glad they're all right because it was, what, 2 feet away from the house,” Yarborough said.
