ALAMANCE COUNTY, N.C. — A shouting match broke out at an Alamance County School Board meeting Monday, leading to the remainder of the meeting being canceled.

The incident started with a conversation about an entry in support of Black Lives Matter in the yearbook at South Alamance High School. A father got up to talk about his daughter and how she was bullied only to be shouted down by others in attendance.

Board member Patsy Simpson explained that the father was seeking support for his daughter.

"The father or grandfather talked about what was in the yearbook, he thought it was appropriate and it was students who basically did their obligation, which is to do their memory of their senior year in high school and what is happening and they chose to put out something about Black Lives Matter," Simpson said.

She added, "He basically asked the board to support his daughter, which we will In terms of bullying, we do have a policy on that and I just thought it was ridiculous how these parents were behaving."

"It appeared the majority of our board did know that this was going to happen tonight," Simpson said. "I was caught off guard, and I disagreed with the statements that some of the public was making in regards to the rights of the students to be able to not be censored."
