FUQUAY-VARINA, N.C. — Two teenagers were injured when shots were fired in a Fuquay-Varina shopping center parking lot Friday afternoon, authorities said.

The shooting occurred at about 4:25 p.m. outside the Walmart, at 1051 E. Broad St. A man confronted two teens in a black Ford F-150 pickup and fired several shots into the truck, authorities said.

The shooter ran off and was seen leaving the area in a white sedan, possibly an Acura or a Volkswagen Jetta, with "EMB" as part of the license plate, authorities said. Police on Saturday said they located the suspect vehicle — a white Acura — and identified Carlos Daniel Dejesus, 19, of Raleigh, who is wanted in connection to the incident.

Police searched Dejesus' home, but did not find him.

The teens in the pickup also drove off after the shooting, authorities said.

Police said there was a verbal altercation, and shortly after shots were fired.

Although authorities initially reported the people in the pickup as a man and a woman, they later said it was two males, ages 17 and 18.

The 18-year-old was in stable condition at WakeMed in Raleigh, while the 17-year-old was stable at WakeMed Apex.

The gunman was described as black, about 140 pounds, with short hair, wearing a red short-sleeve shirt, white pants and white tennis shoes. He has not been identified.

Police investigated a Feb. 23, 2018, shooting outside a Walmart in Fuquay-Varina.

"My guys were loading a truck out here and heard gun shot and somebody going by really fast," a store manager said, who asked to remain anonymous. "Customers were running into the store. Pretty scary."

Lillington resident Glenn Massey, who was not involved in the incident, was one of several people who had to leave his car in the parking lot as police evidence.

Shell casings were found under and near many vehicles.

"This is very frustrating," he said. "I didn't see anything. I didn't hear (anything)."

Anyone with information about the shooting or Dejesus' whereabouts is asked to call the Fuquay-Varina Police Department at 919-552-3191.
