APEX, N.C. — Grocery shopping on a Monday afternoon is not normally an adventure.

Today, it was all about finding what you could.

"Most of the shelves were empty , no milk.  I got the last carton of eggs," said Bruce Jacobs who was shopping at Harris Teeter in Cary.

This was the story all around the Triangle today. A line wrapped around the outside of the building at the Costco in Apex during a morning rush.

The manager there tells WRAL the store gets shipments throughout the day and is working to restock the shelves as quickly as they can.

Three other local chains released statements about the demand and what they are doing to try to get you what you need.

"Our teams are working diligently and around the clock to get shipments to our stores in order to restock our shelves. Inventory levels will vary from store to store depending on many factors, including delivery schedules and customer shopping patterns," said a statement from Publix.

"Associates will continue to work the hours and shifts they are scheduled, and our supply chain and trucking fleet will continue to move products and deliver to stores on their regular schedules," said a statement from Walmart.

"We know that many guests are stocking up on key essentials, and we’re working hard to accommodate this increased demand," said a statement from Target.

Most area stores have restrictions on how much sanitizer or cleaning products you can buy. Some stores are also restricting hours so they have time to stock the shelves and clean.
