ERWIN, N.C. — Law enforcement are investigating a deadly shooting that happened Thursday night in Harnett County.

Deputies with the Harnett County Sheriff's Office and police with the Dunn Police Department were investigating the shooting death of a man. The shooting happened at the Wendy's on East Jackson Boulevard, which is in the Dunn and Erwin area.

Officials arrived around 5:40 p.m. and found a man dead in a gray sedan. There was crime scene tape around the business and law enforcement were investigating late into the night on Thursday.

The victim's name had not been released as of Thursday night.

Dunn police said the victim pulled into a drive-thru to place an order. That is when a suspect pulled up and fired multiple shots into the vehicle.

"I’m scared of going through the drive-thru," said Rhonda Stewart, who lives nearby. "I was scared to get out because of the coronavirus, and when I do, get out then like I see something like this.“

“This is an extremely brazen act," said Dunn Police Chief Clark White. "It is unfortunate these things happen. We don’t have any control, the time and place things occur like that.”

Police said they have leads and even have people of interest in custody.
