Sheriff's office: NC man charged after selling land he didn't have the rights to
The former board member of a local non-profit was arrested and charged after the Bladen County Sheriff's Office said he sold a slice of land to someone he didn't have the legal rights to do so.
Posted — UpdatedThe sheriff's office said Kevin Health Todd, 47, from Bladenboro, falsely represented himself as the treasurer of the Abbotts Precinct Community Property Board and sold a piece of land to another community member, even though Todd didn't own that piece of land.
Authorities also accused Todd of opening an account at a local bank and depositing the money into that account after the sale.
After a months-long investigation, Todd was charged with forgery of deeds/wills, obtaining property by false pretense and common law forgery. He was arrested and held under a $25,000 unsecured bond.
According to state records, the property board is registered under Todd's name.
The sheriff's office could make additional arrests in this case, according to a statement.
