SALEMBURG, N.C. — Officials said his neighbors pulled a man out of his Sampson County home as it burned Saturday.

The fire occurred before 10 p.m. at a mobile home at 502 E. College Street in Salemburg. According to the Sampson County Sheriff's Office, neighbors were able to remove a man from inside the burning home. The victim was treated by EMS but died shortly after.

Officials said the victim was home alone when the fire started.

A preliminary investigation determined that the fire possibly originated in the kitchen and may have been caused by a pot left on the stove unattended.

"The bravery of those who pulled the victim from the home is remarkable," said Lt. Marcus Smith. "Prayers go out to the family affected and the first responders involved."

No additional information was immediately available.
