ZEBULON, N.C. — Two people were badly injured early Wednesday morning in a Zebulon house fire.

Firefighters responded to the home on Karial Court, off Old Bunn Road and not far from Zebulon Elementary School, before 2:30 a.m. Flames were still showing from the back of the house at 4:30 a.m., and the fire was extinguished around 5 a.m.

Officials said two females of unknown ages were rescued from the home and taken to WakeMed with life-threatening injuries.

Firefighters said the home was likely a total loss.

Wake County Sheriff Gerald Baker was also at the scene.

He said a neighbor woke up from the noise and tried to alert the family their home was on fire, but they didn't hear him.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, but it doesn't appear to be suspicious.
