LUMBERTON, N.C. — Two people found dead inside a Robeson County home Wednesday died of natural causes, authorities said Thursday.

A nurse went into 133 Rozier Church Road near Lumberton at about 10:30 a.m. to check on a patient and found Archie Jones Jr., 63, and Linda K. Andrews, 55, dead, Robeson County Sheriff Kenneth Sealey said.

Preliminary autopsies ruled out foul play and suicide, Sealey said, but the exact cause of death still hasn't been determined.

The medical examiner said the couple might have gotten too hot inside the home and died of heat exhaustion, the sheriff said.

The house had window air-conditioning units, he said, but it's unknown if they worked properly.

No one else lived at the home, and no one had heard from the couple since Monday, Sealey said.
