WILSON, N.C. — Police in Wilson say a 19-year-old woman is dead after being stabbed when a large group of people gathered in a parking lot late Monday night.

The victim has been identified as Trinity Williams, who lived in Wilson.

Those who were close to Williams told WRAL News they lost a piece of their hearts on Tuesday after hearing the news.

“I just started screaming,” Zhaniyah Pitt said. “It was really just…my head went blank.”

A release from the Wilson Police Department said at 11:19 on Tuesday night, officers were dispatched for a stabbing at a parking lot on Ward Boulevard between Westview Lanes and Sammy’s Convenience Mart.

When officers arrived on scene they found a large crowd of people gathered, along with 19-year-old Trinity Williams, who had been stabbed.

Police said Williams died from her injuries at the scene.

Miles away at her home in Rocky Mount – Zhaniyah Pitt knew something was wrong.

“I heard about a big fight, and I had just seen a lot of posts that said somebody got killed,” Pitt said. “I saw somebody mention her name, and that’s when I found out it was her.”

Pitt said Williams was the friend she could always count on to be there for her, and that the loss still didn’t feel real.

“I used to really not have a real friend like her. Like I could count on her, and vent to her,” Pitt said. “She didn’t play about her friends. If her friends were hurt, she was hurt too.”

Hours after the loss of her friend, Pitt just wished she could have been there when Trinity needed her most.

“I am angry,” Pitt said. “Because if I could have saved her, I would have.”

“Because that’s really like another part of me,” Pitt tearfully continued. “She was all I had.”

As of Tuesday, Wilson police hadn’t named any suspects in Williams’s death, and a spokesperson for the department said anyone with information should call Crimestoppers.
