CARY, N.C. — A second man was charged Monday in a fatal hit-and-run crash in Cary last week, arrest records show.

Christopher Alex Small, 28, of Raleigh, was arrested after police say he was a passenger in the vehicle that struck and killed a pedestrian on Thursday.

He was charged with fleeing an accident resulting in death.

Fasten Faud Shaikh, 39, was hit at Walnut Street and Macedonia Road around 10 p.m. Thursday.

She died at the scene, authorities said.

Logan Carl Jones, 21, of Raleigh, was charged with felony hit-and-run resulting in a death after the crash.

Jones told Cary police he thought he hit an animal and left the scene, police said.

He said he later saw EMS at the scene and walked back, where he learned he had hit Shaikh, police said.

A woman called 911 at 10 p.m. to report a woman lying in the road at Walnut Street and Crossroads Manor Court, which is opposite Macedonia Road.

"She's in the middle of the road," the caller said. "There were a whole bunch of cars here moving, so I don't know if somebody ran her over."

About 10 minutes earlier, a man called 911 to report a woman weaving back and forth through traffic at the intersection of Walnut Street and Tryon Road, which is less than a quarter-mile away from the other location.

"It looks like this woman is very intoxicated," the man said. "She's walking in the middle of the highway over here. She's going to wind up getting killed tonight."

The man said he was stopped at a traffic light and watched her cross the intersection two or three times, with "cars barely missing her."

Jones appeared in court Friday afternoon, and his attorney said he has been cooperating with police.
